Chamalog
“Kenyan chamas run on trust — but trust breaks down over one question: "did you pay?" Chamalog needed a product that answers it before it's ever asked, without ever touching the group's money.”
A chama is a rotating savings group where members contribute regularly toward shared goals. The treasurer's real job is proof: who paid, how much, and when. Done in notebooks and WhatsApp screenshots, that proof is slow, disputable, and easy to fudge — and any tool that held the group's funds would be a non-starter on trust. The product had to make every shilling visible without becoming a bank.
We designed Chamalog as a record-keeping layer, not a wallet — the group keeps its own bank or M-Pesa account, fully under its officers' control. Logging a contribution takes ten seconds: paste the M-Pesa SMS and it auto-matches to a member, named and timestamped. The dashboard leads with a live goal ring and an on-time streak so a chama's health reads at a glance, and every entry is shared with all members. Transparency is the interface: everyone sees everything, so no one has to ask.
